Why 1-bedroom apartments in the Village cost $3,200 a month.

"Bohemian love"? "Erotic artists"? Which Greenwich Village is that? Copenhagen?

This card is a reprint of an old book cover, but it was tacky even then. The book was obviously written for guys who think terms like "bohemian" and "avant garde" refer to clinical nymphomania. So when the news finally filtered down to them that some ARTISTS lived in Greenwich Village, Robert Norcross saw his chance. His book may have inspired thousands of one-hand-book readers across America to save up for a vacation in fantasy land.

By then, of course, all the "bohemians" had long since been thrown out and replaced by people who wear $900 shoes to work. The "erotic artists" couldnīt afford the rent. And no wonder. Itīs hard to produce your best work posed like that. But this news hasnīt filtered down to Robert Norcross fans, even to this day. You can still see them out there, wandering the streets of New York in a futile search for erotic artists.
