What's all this, then?
The Tacky Postcard Archive is a satirical subsidiary of my company, which does editorial consulting, writing and design for magazine publishers and other corporate clients. (Motto: "If we can do this
with tacky post cards, imagine what we can do for you!")
For about 15 years we´ve done stacks of ads, books, magazines, brochures and web sites for some very large clients. But they´re all so tasteful. So instead of producing yet another brochure about our company, we
decided to do this. It´s more fun.

Who are we?
My name is Ro. I'm married. I have a dog and a small communications company in New York, near Wall Street. I have to admit that this site's phenomenal success is due to the contributions of many other talented people
here. You'll see their names on various pages, in very small type, at their request. I can't really blame them.

Why tacky post cards?
Haven't you ever found yourself, in an airport far from home, skipping over the tasteful post cards to choose a really tacky one instead? I always have.
One day, home with a flu so ugly I couldn't do anything more useful, I dumped out the tattered box that held my collection and started arranging them into categories. Later I brought them to the office, had them
scanned, and tossed them onto the web.
About 66 people saw the cards in the first week. Then Netscape ranked us #4 in their Best New Sites list, and 6,000 more showed up. The audience kept growing as more reviews in newspapers, on TV shows and radio
stations began to appear. By the time Yahoo made it a Cool Site of the Day, then a Pick of the Week, several people per minute were visiting. On 12 January 1999 -- 56 days after the site´s debut -- our visitor tally
rolled over 100,000. Three months later it rolled over a million and we'd moved the site three times as we outgrew the capacity of various servers.
It was apparent that we now had some kind of responsibility for the thing. So we devoted more resources to it -- java & cgi coders, a bigger web domain, weekly updates, a virtual postcard service, a less shabby
box for the collection. We even proofread it, now. And often answer mail.
Why did we do all this? Good question. Maybe it's an attempt to preserve that ephemeral sense of adolescent "booger joke" humor that fades away after about age 12 unless you really work at it. Or, maybe not.

Contributions welcome
No, not money. Post cards. If you have a specimen as stinky as the ones featured here, send it along.
If it passes our rigorous review board, we'll do a scan that preserves every priceless blemish, and publish it with your name forever acknowledged as The Discoverer entered upon the rolls of the official Tacky
Postcard Archive. We'll even send it back to you, in a plain brown wrapper if you prefer, to prevent undue embarrassment.
Before sending anything, please read our submission guidelines. They're short.

All this is copyrighted. Ask before plagiarizing.
Believe it or not, a lot of people's creative work went into this site. Please don't steal any of it. At least, not without asking first! It's poor form.
Many post cards are copyrighted, too. Before sending us one, read the sobering truth in our submission guidelines. Some publishers will grant permission for us
to display copyrighted cards, and you'll see a few in this collection, but not many.
